Abstract:By the means of GC-MS techniques, the sediment samples which were collected respectively from the surface sediment at the 18 survey stations in the South Atlantic in 2011 were detected and analyzed. The result showed, total concentrations of sixteen PAHs in sediment of the South Atlantic research area ranged from 89.48×10-9 to 508.69×10-9.The average concentration is 234.41×10-9.Compared to international similar waters, the pollution levels of 16PAHs in the South Atlanticwasin a lower level.According to the analysis of the characteristic of PAHs,we concluded that the PAHs in the South Atlanticwere mainly from petroleum and its products. The content of Ace,Flu and Ant went beyond the minimum risk evaluation, which may exist a potential adverse effect to biology.
