Abstract:As the major methods to prevent biofouling, surface engineering could be defined as a technique of adjusting solid surface properties through physical or chemical methods to prevent the adhesion of microorganism, diatom and some macromolecules. The formation processes, mechanism as well as the influencing factors of biofouling were sketched in the present review. The application of solid surface engineering in the prevention of biofouling was also reviewed.
