Abstract:
In recent years, shellfish aquaculture transfer activities has brought great economic and social benefits in China. However, few people have investigated the ecological risk of this behavior, and systematic study has not yet been performed. This paper reviews the ecological risk caused by shellfish aquaculture transfer activities in China, recommendations of shellfish aquaculture transfer activities management are given. Results showed that transferred shellfish could carry parasites, prokaryotes, bacteria and viruses, and had a potential impact on the genetic diversity and integrity of the local ecosystem. Therefore government and relevant industry associations should assess the economic, social and ecological impacts of shellfish aquaculture activities comprehensively, and supervise aquaculture enterprises to prevent shellfish escaping and implement good management practices
