Application of organic geochemical proxies to Holocene paleoclimatic and paleoceanographic studies of the East China Sea

  • Organic geochemistry provides a variety of proxies that can be used to reconstruct paleo-climatic and paleo-environmental changes as well as paleo-biogeochemical cycles.This technology is now widely used in paleoclimatic and paleoceanographic researches in China marginal seas, particularly the East China Sea.This paper summarizes some important progress made recently in description of carbon source, reconstruction of paleo-climatic and paleo-environmental changes, especially the changes in paleo-temperature, monsoon, sea-level and paleo-oceanic productivity of the East China Sea in the Holocene.Consequently, the authors propose that organic geochemical multiproxy indices extracted from high resolution marine sediments should be used to clarify the history of paleo-climatic and paleo-environmental changes of the China marginal seas.
