Abstract
The feasibility of using sponge Hymeniacidon perlevis to bioremediate the pathogenic bacteria pollution in the sea cucumber Stichopus japonicus culture pool was investigated. The concentration of fecal coliform, pathogenic vibrio, and total bacteria in the S. japonicus-cultured water was tested continuously when the H. perlevis sample was hung in the pool. It was fond that H. perlevis showed good bioremediation of pathogenic bacteria pollution in the S. japonicus culture water for 43 days, achieving removal of(59.458.18)% of fecal coliform, (52.9919.33)% of pathogenic vibrio, and (55.7915.64)% of total culturable bacteria. During the test period, the H. perlevis sample kept in good condition. The results demonstrate that H. perlevis is an effective bioremediator of pathogenic bacteria pollution in the sea cucumber S. japonicus culture water.
