An approach for correcting grain size effect base on the size-frequency distribution

  • Variation of trace element concentrations in sediment induced by natural processes or human activities always conceals or weakens by grain size effect.In order to eliminate the grain size effect,this paper bases on the size-frequencydistribution of sediments,analysis the trace element content in each fraction,and calculate itsconcentrationcontrolling by granularity in the whole sample.The grain size effect can be removed by deducting the calculated contents from the measured ones.By comparing with the geochemical normalization method,we discuss the feasibility and merits of the correction method presented in this paper.
