Abstract
Based on 3-D unstructured-grid, free-surface, primitive equation, Finite-Volume Coastal Ocean circulation Model(FVCOM), a 3D tidal current model of tidal constituent M2 was established in offshore area of Haizhou Bay. The application of the model showed that the calculated result agrees well with the measured data, and that the model was successful in simulation of the temporal and spatial distribution of tidal field of tidal constituent M2 of this area:the horizontal flow velocity was 0.35~0.65 m/s in the west and more than 0.8 m/s in the east with about 40 m depth. Surface suspended silt particles from the southern was simulated and its temporal-spatio transport trajectories was shown. In the early stage of 26 h, the tracer particle transported horizontally with temporal and spatial variation, thereafter, the tracer particles located in the neighborhood of 120.092 degrees east longitude and 34.462 degrees north latitude, and made up and down movement underwater about 0.6~2 m with about M2 tidal cycle. Its average velocity in vertical direction was about 710-5 m/s in the order of magnitude.
